Hi! I’m J.R. and I love documentaries and I want you to love documentaries too. My goal is to post a documentary film review a week.

I watch a lot of documentaries. At the moment I’m in the middle of trying to finance a historical documentary film about a Danish national hero and for those of you who’ve seen “Hearts of Darkness” I can tell you I feel just like Francis Ford Coppola in the jungle. It’s my first feature and I had no idea that patience would be the number 1 quality required of me.

Although I have some training and have had the pleasure to be taught by fantastic people, I’m really an amateur, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. The last thing I’d like is to be pretentious… what I hope to be is of some use. The wonderful thing about dox is that they’re accessible to everyone. When you ask a doc director what his background is be prepared to hear anthropologist, journalist, historian or private detective, amongst many others. With that I mind I don’t feel so humbled – in this great space which is documentary film-making there’s room enough for all opinions.
