“Fermat’s Last Theorem” (1996) – Review #22
7 long years. That’s how much time Andrew Wiles spent fighting a mathematical problem to which no one knew if there existed a solution. The film is a beautiful, little gem about human endurance represented by a very modest man. Who knew mathematics could be this exciting?

This is a lovely movie! How can one capture the excitement of stalking a scientific question? And how can one illustrate complex mathematical problems to those who haven’t studied math? I thought this movie did a wonderful job of both. It captured the exhilaration and the frustration of tackling a problem – congrats on a wonderful movie.
Hi Susan. You are right, the director handles this complex topic in an elegant and pedagogical way. The film is such a gem (as also shown by the ranking it got on the LovedoxList).
